Kindergarten "Walks the Line"

We read the Book "Little Green" by Keith Baker
Kindergarten starts the school year off learning about lines. This is fun lesson inspired by Mrs. Matott at http://mrsmatott.wordpress.com/category/kindergarten/
After reading the book we took a dot for a walk and walked a line that I set up in the halls at each elementary school. I believe that engaging students in a interactive activity makes the art experience more meaningful ands fun.

Walking the Line was so much fun, even older students couldn't resist. Unfortunately this made it difficult for teachers to keep their students walking in straight lines in the hall that week.

Patron Artists and Table Organization!

Each table has a Patron Artist and each
seat has a number associated to it. I use this management tool for a couple of different purposes. As you can see in the photos, the tables have their very own art supplies and shelf in the room. That means that they can find their supplies quickly and are responsible for keeping them nice (since they will be using them all year). The seat numbers each have a captain job that switches every week. Whether its getting supplies for their table, in charge of floors, drying rack, recycling, washing tables, etc.

Our Art Rooms!

Balancing three Art rooms requires an organized Art Teacher! Creating and keeping organized Art rooms have been an ongoing process, but I enjoy the challenge! In college, my methods professors taught me that even though a lot of Art rooms may look chaotic and unorganized, most art teachers have a method to their madness and have unique style of organization. This is very true. My organization even varies from room to room. It all has to do with the space and tools provided in each building. Being a traveling art teacher and traveling from one school to another in the same day means that I have to start my day with everything ready to go, so before I can drive to the next school, I need to make sure that I have everything ready for the next time I will be in the building. Below are some photos of the three Art Rooms that I share with my students!
